Bryson Knowles
Funeral Director

Over 41 years of service

Bryson Knowles was born in Uvalde, Texas on January 23, 1948. He grew up in Uvalde and graduated from Uvalde High School in 1966. He began working at the funeral home while still in high school. In those days, the funeral home also operated the ambulance service for Uvalde and Uvalde County. Bryson, though still a teenager, assisted on funerals as well as ambulance duties. After attending Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, Bryson graduated from San Antonio College with a degree in Mortuary Science. He served his apprenticeship at Porter Loring Mortuary in San Antonio. Bryson moved backed to Uvalde and became a partner in Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary on June 1, 1972.

Bryson is married to Susan Guyler of Crystal City, Texas. Together, they have four children and eleven grandchildren. Bryson is a former President of the Uvalde Lions Club, a former Vice-President of the Uvalde Chamber of Commerce, and a former President of the Uvalde Golf Association. He is a member of First Baptist Church, Uvalde. He is also a former President of the South Central Texas Funeral Directors Association and a former board member of the Texas Funeral Directors Association. He has also served as a Trustee of the Texas Prepaid Funeral Trust.

Bryson enjoys singing with Uvalde’s quartet, “The Four Hits”, and is an amateur musician, playing drums and guitar. He also enjoys hunting, golf, fishing, flyfishing and kayaking.
David Gonzales

David was born in Uvalde, TX on March 9, 1959. David is the son of Natividad Gonzales and the late Ramon H. Gonzales Jr. David attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Uvalde High School in 1977. He attended Southwest Texas Junior College and began working as a funeral assistant at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in 1978.

David graduated from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston in 1984 and began serving his apprenticeship at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. David received his Texas Funeral Director and Embalmers license in 1985.

David married Patricia Garcia on December 22, 1983 in Houston, TX. They have two sons, Asael Pedro Portillo Jr. and Elias Portillo and two grandchildren, Adonia and Asael Pedro III. David and Patricia are members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. David has been a member of the School Board in Uvalde since 2000 and currently serves as the vice-president.
Laurie Molloy Howard

Over 22 years of service

Laurie was born in Uvalde, TX on August 13, 1956 to Jack Molloy and the late Scottie Molloy. She graduated from Uvalde High School in 1974. She married Jimmy Joe Howard on August 15, 1981. Jimmy has been a firefighter for the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Dept. for the past 27 years and is currently the Fire Marshal and Arson Investigator for the City of Uvalde. Their “children” include two springer spaniels, Daisy and Minnie.

Laurie began working for Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in 1985 as a secretary/receptionist. Upon the death of her brother in 1987, she decided to further her education and become a licensed funeral director/embalmer. Laurie graduated from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston in 1988 before serving her apprenticeship with Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. She is a member of First United Methodist Church in Uvalde and serves in many areas of the church. She volunteered for many years with the Uvalde Junior Service League and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Dept. She also served on the advisory board of Faith in Action as vice-president.

In her free time, Laurie enjoys hiking in the mountains, jogging with her husband, and spoiling her three nieces.
Andres Ybarra
Funeral Director

Over 14 years of service

Andres "June" Ybarra was born and raised in Uvalde, Texas. Since he was the oldest of eight children, he took on the responisiblity of taking care of his siblings when his father passed away when he was 18 years old. After graduating from high school and marrying his high school sweetheart, Isabel, he worked for several companies in the area, including H.E.B. He graduated from Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1990. After serving his apprenticeship, he joined Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in the summer of 1993.

June is the proud father of three beautiful girls, Pilar, 18, Juanita, 16, and Macy, 15 who keep him busy supporting their cheerleading, gymnastics, and sports activities. He is active in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde, as well as several other civic organizations.

June has coached Little League and girls softball. He loves sports and spending time with his family.
Paul Stephens
Funeral Director

Over 12 years of service

Paul was born in Camp Wood, TX and grew up in the Uvalde area. He moved to Utopia, TX in 1987 where his father pastored the Baptist church for eleven years. Paul graduated from Utopia High School in 1979 where he was involved in 4-H and F.F.A. He also served as basketball manager during junior high and senior high school.

After graduating San Antonio College with a degree in Mortuary Science, he served his apprenticeship at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary Paul is very involved in the First Baptist Church in Uvalde, including the santuary choir, handbell choir, and working with the youth. Paul joined the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1996 and is currently the chaplain. One of only five or six cross-trained men in the fire department, he also volunteers for the Uvalde E.M.S. as an emergency medical technician and is the chaplain of this organization as well.

Paul is also the representative on the Emergency Management Committee. Paul enjoys mountain biking, and being with family and friends.
Cristina Blanco
Secretary

Cristina Blanco was born and raised in Uvalde, Texas. She is the daughter of Israel Saiz and Frances Saiz. She graduated from Uvalde High School in 1994. She attended Southwest Texas Junior College and has worked in customer service. Cristina married Benjamin Blanco in 1994 and they have four children; Elisa, Ben Jr., Cristian, and Elias. Cristina and her family are members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde. She lived in Lockhart, Texas for seven years and decided to move back to Uvalde to be closer to family. Cristina enjoys reading, music, and spending time with her family and friends.
Monica Saiz
Pre-Arrangement Director

Monica H. Saiz was born on March 5, 1978 in Uvalde to Frances H. Saiz and Israel Saiz, and she is the granddaughter of the late Anita Hill. She was raised in Uvalde and attended Uvalde High School. Monica joined Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary on March 1, 2010 as prearrangement director. She has worked customer service within the community for over 15 years and was most recently employed with the City of Uvalde for almost eight years. Monica currently lives in Knippa with her three children, Xavier, Gabriel, and Emily. She prides herself in her strong Christian faith and is a member of Trinity Fellowship in Uvalde where she is active in many areas of the church.

In her free time, Monica enjoys spending time with her children, baking, volunteering in church activities, and giving back to her community. Monica's personal goal is to give families the best service she can when making pre-arrangements at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Joni Garcia
Funeral Attendant

Joni Garcia was born in Hondo, TX and raised in Sabinal. She graduated from Uvalde High School in 1999. She married Bernardo Garcia, Jr. in 2003. They have two boys, Elijah Joaquin Garcia (age 10) and Diego Gabriel Garcia (age 8).

She is a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and the Sabinal High School Sports Boosters Club. In her free time, Joni enjoys spending time with family and friends at the Frio River, and making people laugh.
Guadalupe J. Nolasco

Guadalupe J. "Lupe" Nolasco was born in Brownwood, TX on September 14, 1975. He moved to Uvalde when he was very young and began attending elementary school. He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1995. He got married in 1996, and he and Michelle have two children, Alexandria (age 7) and L.J. (age 3). In his free time, Lupe enjoys spending time with his family and riding motorcycles. He owns a Harley-Davidson and has been riding for aprox. 10 years.
Remijio Velasquez
Support Staff

Remijio “Remie” Velasquez was born in Poteet, TX and was raised in Uvalde where he attended Uvalde High School. He has been married to Blanca S. Velasquez for 51 years, and they have three children, eight grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he co-chairs the Sacred Heart Festival Raffle along with his wife, and is a member of the collection money counter group. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years where he was stationed in California, Hawaii, and Alaska with the VP-22 Squadron. He was lucky enough to be in Hawaii and Alaska when they became states. He worked twenty years with H.E.B. and he retired from Uvalde Flight Center with 18 years of service. He has also served as a Clerk, Alternate Judge for the UCISD, County, SWTJC, and the Democratic party elections. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post 479 where he has served as Sergeant-At-Arms and has been Post-Adjutant for the last four years. He is also a board member of the Uvalde Service Organization. His hobby is taking care of his baby (a 1940 pickup) and traveling.
